19 of the Russian's 21 victories have been achieved on hardcourt

A comeback Daniil Medvedev won his first championship for 882 days with success over Frenchman Moutet in the competition championship match.

The Russian, a ex- world number one, has endured a torrid period, winning just one match at the major tournaments and experiencing a difficult moment at the American major.

Medvedev's inconsistency on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his serve in particular - led to him falling of the elite rankings and finally separating with long-time trainer his previous coach.

Currently collaborating with his coach and Goetzke, Medvedev has gradually improved in the last few weeks - climaxing in a tightly fought competitive triumph over challenger Moutet.

This marks his initial trophy following the Italian tournament and initial on a hardcourt after spring of the previous year.

Success also means Medvedev has secured twenty-one victories at 21 different tournaments.

"This marks the first occasion I'm at a tournament with my children together, so to get a trophy is really nice," commented tennis professional Daniil Medvedev.

"This victory is in tribute of my younger daughter her name, because the first title I won when my older daughter Alisa was born was for her."

The tennis star, the former major winner, had failed in his previous six finals, featuring in Halle previously this season.

The player's defensive strategy and frequent outbursts on the tennis court had prompted some to question if his skill to compete at the highest level was finished.

Yet the player has made changes in the past month, attempting to come to the net and perform positively, backed up by an better serving game.

The champion came back from a disadvantage in the opening set against the tricky opponent, securing 4 of the last five exchanges to gain the advantage.

The competitors swapped service breaks in the following set before Moutet, attempting for his initial tour championship, gained dominance to push for a decider.

The opponent defended four early-game chances in a close final set before the Russian won the break to 15 to close out the victory.

Fittingly, he earned the win with a point at the net area, with the Frenchman unable to control a return after a lengthy match.
